Over 150,000 fans from 150 colleges across 40 cities attended the launch event.

The launch edition of ‘Freshers Festival’ was hosted on the weekend of 21 & 22 August 2021 through a digital format given the Covid-19 protocols and Government guidelines. Freshers from the pan-India college circuit came together at the start of their academic year for this electrifying online event that was hosted on a digital platform with an immersive never seen online experience. The EDM genre saw global artists Yellow Claw, Julia Bliss and Teri Miko, the Indie genre hosted The Yellow Diary, Taba Chake and more, and the ever popular Bollywood category featured Asees Kaur, Anuv Jain and many other stars.

Going forward in 2022 the Festival will adopt a Hybrid mode, including a large scale on-ground Festival presenting an array of music, entertainment, F&B and adventure sports options, bringing together music aficionados from over 200 colleges spanning 50 cities. Plans are afoot to augment the ‘Freshers Festival’ concept in 2022, inclusive of an all India ‘Talent Hunt’ program in the music and entertainment domain. The Campus DJ Hunt will kick off a massive hunt for the best DJ talent in colleges across India. The Contest will be announced digitally, where fans can send in their music tracks on a micro-site. Every city will have a luminary Judge shortlisting winners, and each winner will become the official DJ to perform at Fresher's Festival on Sunburn night. Virtual Jam sessions will enable winners to get a chance to meet renowned Artists and share the same screen, with edits being integrated in the live Artist set on show day.

Sunburn organizers seek nod for EDM Fest in Dec
The organisers of the Electronic Dance Music festival Sunburn have sought permission from the state government to hold the festival at Vagator from December 27 to 29. The government, however, is yet to take a call.

Said Harindra Singh, Chairman and MD, Percept, “We have placed our request to hold the event, but we have also told the government that we on our own will cancel the event if the Covid-19 situation doesn’t favour it. We need permission in advance to prepare for the big event,” We have submitted that anyone attending the festival as a ticket holder will be double vaccinated and also that organisers will ensure that all main staff working on ground will be double vaccinated, hence ensuring it to be a safe event.”

“A practice that has been followed recently for all attendees in North America live music events and festivals, EURO 2020 as well as the recent India versus England Cricket Test series. This is the current norm globally for live or stadium events,” he explained. “Nobody knows how COVID-19 will behave, whether the situation will be stable or not. We want to get early permission to finalise every bit of the festival. However, all this is subject to the COVID-19 situation at the time of the event", Singh added.

Tourism Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar said that the application has not yet come to him, but that the government has no intention of allowing any event at the cost of the safety of the people of Goa. As of now, we are not giving anyone permission, but whatever decision is taken will be in consideration of SOPs of the government, and by taking into account the ground situation,” he said.
